Most people come to Koh Samui for the beaches. They find a good spot, order something cold, and that is their week sorted. Nothing wrong with that. But if you want to do something a bit different with one of your mornings, ziplining in the jungle hills is one of the best options on the island.
It is popular for good reason. The setting is great, it works for almost everyone, and it does not take the whole day. Here is what you need to know before you book.
What happens when you get there
The parks are all up in the forested hills in the middle of the island, away from the beach. When you arrive you get fitted with a harness, helmet, and gloves. Then a guide takes the group through a safety briefing. You learn the hand signals, how to brake, and what to do if you stop halfway along a line. It takes about ten minutes and it is worth paying attention.
After that you do a short practice run close to the ground. Almost everyone who feels nervous before the practice line feels fine by the time it is done.
Then the real course starts. Depending on which park you are at, you will do between 8 and 21 lines. Each one connects two platforms up in the trees. Some are short and fast. Some are longer with good views over the jungle. At each platform there is a guide who clips you in and sends you off when you are ready. You can take your time. Nobody is rushing you along.
The whole thing takes about two to three hours from start to finish. Book the morning and you still have the whole afternoon free.
Which parks are there
There are three main zipline parks on Koh Samui.
Hawk Adventure is the biggest. It has 21 lines and the longest one on the island at 600 metres. If you want the most lines and the longest runs, this is the one to go for. Hotel pickup is included from most parts of the island.
Tree Bridge Zipline has 8 lines and a tree bridge crossing at the highest point on the island. A lot of people who have done both say this one is their favourite because of how different that section feels. We offer the Tree Bridge Zipline combined with a waterfall visit which is a great way to spend a morning in the hills.
Samui Zipline Lipa Noi is on the west side of the island in a quieter spot. Good choice for families or anyone who wants to add an ATV session to the same day. Less busy than the bigger parks.
If you want to compare all three properly before you decide, the team at Koh Samui Zipline have a full breakdown of each park with prices and what is included.
Is it safe
Yes. All three parks use proper equipment, have trained guides on every platform, and run a full safety briefing before anyone gets on a line. Your harness and clips are checked before every single run. You always start on a short practice line. There is a guide at every platform who handles the equipment. You are never left to manage anything on your own.
People of all ages do this every day on Koh Samui. Families with young kids, older couples, people who were nervous at the start and finished the course with a big smile. Listen to the briefing, wear the right shoes, and you will be fine.
Can kids go
Yes, from around age 5 depending on the park. There is a minimum weight requirement at each one. Most parks also offer a tandem option where smaller kids fly attached to a guide instead of on their own harness. Worth asking about when you book if you have young children in the group.
What to wear
Closed-toe shoes. That is the main rule and every park enforces it. No sandals, no flip-flops. Wear something comfortable and fitted because loose clothes sit awkwardly under a harness. Tie back long hair. Leave jewellery at the hotel. The park provides everything else.
When to go
Book the morning slot. It is cooler, quieter, and the views through the jungle are clearer than in the afternoon. The dry season from December to April gives the best weather but the parks run all year. Light rain is usually fine. If there is lightning or heavy rain they will pause things and either reschedule you or give you a refund.
What to do on the same day
The parks are in the middle of the island which puts you close to a few good spots. Na Muang Waterfall is nearby and worth stopping at on the way back. The first waterfall has a pool at the bottom you can swim in.
If you want a full active day, the ATV quad tour on the mountains of Koh Samui runs in the same area and goes well with a morning zipline. Zipline first, ATV after, back at the hotel by lunch.
If you want to get out on the water in the afternoon, the Pig Island speedboat tour is one of the most popular trips we run and departs in the afternoon. Or if you want a longer day out, the Koh Tao day trip by speedboat is a great option for snorkelling and seeing more of the islands around Samui.
